The rules and regulations surrounding the New Jersey inheritance tax may seem overwhelming, particularly when considering the numerous classes of beneficiaries and the varying percentages of tax associated with such classes.
Samantha Rocco, a member of Einhorn Barbarito Frost & Botwinick PC’s Taxation and Wills, Trusts & Estates groups, provided key insights to the New Jersey inheritance tax in an NJ.com Q&A article. She discussed the classes of beneficiaries and provided examples of exceptions to inheritance tax rules. Rocco also noted that another effective way to minimize the amount of inheritance tax is to begin gifting during one’s lifetime, whether outright or in trust.
